Overdrive is the company the library PAYS to manage their digital collections. I'm not sure how Overdrive would have it either. Libby is great for eBook & Audiobook consumption, but search and title management are so much better in Overdrive.
, but it seems like when using Libby there will be a free-for-all once your library obtains a title to get into the hold queue as opposed to being earliest to recommend it which works well with Overdrive. I’m really bummed to see the superior navigation of Overdrive go away for the inferior search and navigation that Libby has and not looking forward to that. Does anyone else frequently use the ‘recommend’ feature in Overdrive to get into the queue for a new release? In Libby one can notify interest in a title: does that mean one will automatically be put into the queue when/if your library obtains the title, or will you just get a notification and have to manually place a hold? The current system in Overdrive is probably not perfect (and my library restricted the number of recommendations one could do likely to limit the number of people in a title queue once a title was obtained), but it seems like when using Libby there will be a free-for-all once your library obtains a title to get into the hold queue as opposed to being earliest to recommend it which works well with Overdrive.
Someone recently posted the updated Overdrive-to-Libby FAQ in which it appears that Overdrive will go away for good at the end of April.
